Program #4764, With Úna Monaghan, from the 2023 Dublin New Music Festival (First aired 6/21/23)

Composer and sound engineer Úna Monaghan is from Belfast, has roots in traditional Irish folk music and plays harp. Hear some of her new work for traditional instruments and electronics from her 2023 record Aonaracht, as well as the premiere of her work, "Little Auditoriums" as performed by the Crash Ensemble from the 2023 Dublin New Music Festival.

Monaghan’s work spans the fields of Irish traditional music, experimental music practices, improvisation and interactive technologies and tends to be collaborative – as in the six works on Aonaracht, recorded by Ireland’s foremost musicians. Additionally, listen to her work for harp and electronics from her 2018 album, For. Plus, there's a piece she recorded with Berlin-based American composer Lyra Pramuk, and a sample of a speech-to-song work from Gerry Diver. - Caryn Havlik
